Farewell, The Metropol
An Ode to the Taste of an Era

The Metropol, the massive banquet hall at United Centre in Admiralty will serve its last meal on September 27th, concluding a 35-year journey. With just three days left, many regulars are making special visits to savor, one last time, the familiar comforts held within its bustling atmosphere. The dim sum trolleys, the cheerful scramble for Har Gow and Siu Mai—soon, these will fade into memory.

”Har Gow, Siu Mai, Cheong Fun… come and take a look!“

That call, echoing through the hall, is part of a collective memory shared by generations of Hong Kongers. The trolleys carried more than just steamed dumplings and buns; they carried fading traditions, crafts rarely seen today. And the lively joy of families lining up, choosing their favorite dishes straight from those carts—that, too, will become history.

The lights will go out.

But the mist from lifted lids, the tracks of trolleys—they will linger, as warmth held close, long after the last dish is served.
